This course is designed to teach HACMP professionals the techniques used to implement HACMP in a virtualized environment and to plan for, configure, and manage HACMP/XD using Geographic Logical Volume Manager (GLVM) as the data replication method.
Students should have experience with installing and performing standard HACMP configuration functions, which can be obtained through the following course (or equivalent experience):
AU54: HACMP System Administration I: Planning and Implementation, AU73: System p LPAR and Virtualization I: Planning and Configuration (or AU74: IBM System p5 Virtualization and LPAR for pSeries POWER4 Administrators), or equivalent experience. Note: AU54 and AU73/AU74 are mandatory prerequisites.
Students should also have experience with the following skills, which are prerequisites for AU62: The principles of good system management; TCP/IP Communications Concepts and Tools as covered in AU07; LVM Concepts and Configuration as covered in AU14, AU16, AU20.
After completing this course, you should be able to:
- Design and implement a virtualized System p5 environment that is used in an HACMP and HACMP/XD configuration, that includes the failure/recovery of the virtualized components outside of the control of HACMP
- Plan for data replication over a distance, considering replication method (software versus hardware), bandwidth requirements, latency, and time-to-write
- Describe GLVM, Metro Mirror, and HACMP/XD concepts and processing
- Plan for and implement HACMP/XD with GLVM and Metro Mirror
- Perform on-going maintenance of the HACMP/XD cluster
