The purpose of this course is to teach TCP/IP network configuration and administration including the skills necessary to begin implementing and using PPP, DHCP, electronic mail, Usenet news, static and dynamic routing, DNS, NFS, NIS, LDAP and NTP.
On completion of this course, students should be able to:
- Understand the basic concepts of TCP/IP protocols and addressing
- Understand TCP/IP broadcasting and multicasting
- Configure TCP/IP on Linux
- Configure PPP
- Understand DHCP and build a DHCP server on Linux
- Connect multiple TCP/IP networks using static and dynamic routing
- Use networking commands for remote login, remote execution, and file transfer
- Understand and implement DNS, NFS, NIS and LDAP
- Understand and implement NTP
- Perform basic troubleshooting of network problems
